Who is welcome?
All persons (age 19 and above) interested in adult kink are welcome to attend. We open our doors to all gender identifications, sexual preferences, and scene preferences (e.g. Top, bottom, switch, submissive, slave, Master, Sir, etc...). If you are interested and want to learn more about kink and/or BDSM, this event is for you! The safe, fun, friendly atmosphere is fostered and designed to welcome everyone.
(back to question list)

Where is the location?
This AIS Convention is located in Columbus, Ohio; the heart of the midwest. We have a great hotel with a huge play-space, with a really high ceiling, and many classrooms for our use! The Hotel will be catering the events, and the Plan is for the weekend to be a "Kink Mecca"; Meaning that you arrive on Friday evening, and don't have to even think about leaving the host hotel until Sunday check out!
(back to question list)

I'm nervous...
Everyone, including the AIS staff, has been nervous, anxious, or even a little scared trying something new. But don't worry, this event has a relaxed, friendly environment and an orientation on Friday night for people who haven't been to events like this before. We discuss ideas, concerns, curiosities, and have a Q & A session after the orientation. If you have questions prior to the event, you can e-mail us, or just join the FetLife COPE2018 Attendees Group, and post your questions there. We would be glad to answer them.
(back to question list)

This is my first event...
Don't worry, we were all new to events at one time. Prior to the event, one of the best ways to get more comfortable is to come to the AIS Meet N Greets, to meet lots of people, and ask about the events. You can also check out the COPE Fetlife attendees group, and ask questions there. Then at the event, we recommend attending the Friday night First timers orientation. Finally, if you have any questions, just e-mail us at owner@Adventuresinsexuality.org
(back to question list)

Will there be single people?
Yes. There are lots of people in all forms of relationships that attend. AIS Events are a great place to meet people who are like-minded without pressure. If you have not been to an event like this, please join us for the Meet N Greet on Friday night. This is a great start to learning what to expect, and to discover people with similar interests.
(back to question list)

Is it possible to meet people to play with?
Of course! We have set up several ideas for you!
Meeting people prior to the event - We have formed a COPE2018 FetLife Group specifically for Registered Attendees. This is a open forum for people to start meeting others, and discuss possibilities while at the event. Furthermore, AIS will be having several social gatherings prior to that - Check the AIS FetLife posts or the main AIS web site for Meet-N-Greet times and locations.
Meeting people During the Event - On Friday night there is a Meet-n-Greet Game/gathering from about 6-7pm - this is friendly social time to find out more about your fellow attendees! Also, while there is a general event armband, there are also colored armbands available in the AIS Convention Registration Area.
• If you are a Top looking - put on a Red armband.
• If you are a Bottom looking - put on a Blue armband.
• If you are a Switch looking - Put on a Green armband.
• If you are a GLBTQ looking - Put on a Rainbow armband.
• If you are looking for Intimate Encounters - Put on a Pink Kisses armband.
These armbands identify people who are interested in meeting new people who may have complimentary interests. Remember that wearing an armband is only a way to create introductions. It is a fun form of identification and only an invitation for discussion and possible negotiation.
(back to question list)

I want to stay in the host hotel, what is the nightly rate?
For this event, the hotel rate is $99/night - plus local and occupancy taxes.
(back to question list)

I keep hearing about the hotel's "Chocolate Section"... What is that?
The "Chocolate Section" is what the hotel management initially named the Wing of the hotel which contained the event space. However, now that we have the entire hotel, the areas are "Dark Chocolate" and "Milk Chocolate". There are about 200 available guest rooms in both chocolate areas. The rooms and event space is cordoned off from the remainder of the hotel, and all of it is considered event space. Therefore, there is no need to be vanilla in the majority of the hotel. (Per Health dept rules, you must be dressed appropriately in the restaurant)
If you want to walk naked to the classes? To the playspace? If you happen to be scening in the hallway? More power to ya! Just make sure you are not blocking the hallway - as it is a fire hazard and Make sure you are not disturbing the other attendees - Anyway, the chocolate section is very freeing - as you can stay in kink space all weekend!!
(back to question list)

What is the difference between "Dark" and "Milk" Chocolate?
The Dark Chocolate area is the hotel rooms that are right near the Event area. The Milk Chocolate area are the hotel rooms that are a little farther away.
(back to question list)

Are there any Vanilla areas left?
The Hotel lobby and the restaurant are the only places that are strictly Vanilla and you must be "Appropriately Dressed" in those vanilla areas. Also, in hallway from the event space to the secondary playspace and the restaurant, along with the outside smoking areas; you must be "Appropriately Covered" while in those areas.
(back to question list)

I have a friend, lover, playpartner, etc... who just wants to come to my room at the host hotel just to visit me. Is that allowed?
No. Since this is a hotel takeover event, the entire hotel is event space. Anyone not registered for the event will not be allowed in the building *(other than the lobby - and will be held and/or turned away there.)* Also... in your registration, it says, "for the privacy and security of the event, do not share the hotel location..." The only way they know where the hotel will be is if you break that rule. Get 'em registered prior to the event, or tell them to stay home and Skype.
(back to question list)

How much money should I bring?
Enough for meals on your own at local restaurants, and save some to take advantage of the fabulous stock of our vendor area!
(back to question list)

What do I need to do to register for this event?
Please Read all the rules first. Then go to the tickets page, and purchase your ticket. Shortly after ticket purchase, we will send an email confirmation with all the pertinent information. It is your responsibility to call the hotel and make your hotel reservation.

(back to question list)

Does the Registration Price include a hotel room?
Ummm... no. See Above. Hotel rate is $99/night, plus applicable taxes.
(back to question list)

I want to buy a ticket for my friend, lover, dominant, slave, kitten, babygirl, etc... so they can come. Is that ok?
Of course that is fine - even if you have more than one. As long as they are ages 19 and up, and human. Just register them each individually with all the required info - including legal name, badge name, birthdate, etc...
(back to question list)

What is Pansexual?
Pansexual means that all gender identifications and sexual preferences are welcome!
(back to question list)

What is Polyamory?
It is more than one open, fully disclosed, consensual and simultaneous relationship. AIS openly encourages honest and direct communication within relationships, regardless of status – monogamous, polyamorous, open, closed, etc.
(back to question list)

Will I have to participate?
Well, buying a ticket is all the participation required. Anything else is completely voluntary. Remember, as an adult, you are responsible for your own behavior, and expressing your own limits. Everyone at the event is aware of our Primary rule ~
No means No!
(back to question list)

What is a PSM?
A PSM is a Play Space Monitor. They are responsible for your safety in the Play Space and are there to assist with difficulties, questions, and ensure safe, sane and consensual play.
(back to question list)

What is SSC?
Our communities recognize the phrase "Safe, Sane, Consensual" as the best brief summary of the principles guiding our practices:
• Safe is being knowledgeable about the techniques and safety concerns involved in what you are doing, and acting in accordance with that knowledge.
• Sane is knowing the difference between fantasy and reality, and acting in accordance with that knowledge.
• Consensual is respecting the limits imposed by each participant at all times.
(back to question list)

Is there a Dress Code?
You betcha!
Dress Code Outside the Chocolate / Event Area: The hotel is grandmother rule/vanilla space (meaning dress as though it would be OK if you bumped into your grandmother in the lobby)
Dress Code Inside the Event Area: Anything you desire at any time you desire! – from casual to kinky! Since the AIS Convention Event area (including the AIS Convention Attendee's rooms) is now closed off from the remainder of the Host Hotel, we are more free to dress however, whenever! We still do recommend using common sense for comfort during the class sessions. Play parties? Up to you – (personally we love dressing to impress!) We have seen everything from Kilts to Kimonos, from rubber suits to tutus, to jeans and t-shirts.
(back to question list)

What if I have no experience?
This Event is perfect for you! We have classes for beginners, and a great beginner orientation on Friday night, to help you acclimate and discover the guidelines and etiquette of the event!
(back to question list)

What If I have lots of experience? We have classes from the mild to the wild! It is a place to share, play and learn something new – as we are all growing! Perhaps you can even share something you know with someone who wants to know?
(back to question list)

Are there any restaurants around?
Yuppers!! The area is packed with great places to dine. There will be a map of local establishments in your registration package.
(back to question list)

I smoke – is this a problem?
No – there are designated outside VANILLA smoking areas. Please remember there is NO SMOKING in the hotel. This include the use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigs), personal vaporizers (PV) and electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS).
(back to question list)

I have an Ostrich as a pet, can I bring it? (It will get lonely at home)
No.  No animals are allowed in the Event area. (*except for service animals assisting disabled handlers)
(back to question list)

I like to dress up as a Puppy, but you said no animals..?
We encourage animal role-play of any kind, as long as there are no non-human/real animals present.
(back to question list)

Can I bring my Baby?
Human infants and children are under the age limit of 19 and up. If you have a child, you will have to find alternate arrangements for your children of any age.
(back to question list)

If I can't come, can I get a refund?
60% Refunds are gladly given up until midnight July 8, 2018. After that date no refunds will be issued. *Registrations are non-transferable.
(back to question list)

If I can't come, can I give my ticket to a friend?
No. Sorry. We have discovered that this not only causes confusion, but also places people at risk. So there are NO Ticket Transfers, Period. End of Story, Don't Ask.
(back to question list)

I bought a ticket for my friend, lover, dominant, slave, kitten, babygirl, etc... and now we broke up... Can I cancel their ticket?
Yes. Only the ticket purchaser or ticket holder can cancel their ticket. It can not be transferred, or "given away." Refunds are given as above.

Will there be ticket sales at the Door?
No. This is a private event and not open to the public, so there will be absolutely NO Ticket sales after July 22, 2018!
(back to question list)

What is the Event Safeword?
In our lifestyle, we use a "safe word" to maintain and express our limits during a scene. When this word is spoken during a scene, it ensures each participant will cease or modify their participation with this word or gesture. The house safeword for Stop is "Red" or "Safeword" and the house word for Caution (Slow down and check in) is "Yellow". A PSM will intervene in a scene if the Top does not respond appropriately when one of these words is used.
(back to question list)

I can't find the answer to my question on this list...Help!
No worries! We can answer your questions about the event or get you an answer if we don't know. If you can't find the answer, chances are, other attendees to the event may also want that answer, but might be too shy to ask the question. The answer may be available on the FetLife group page for the FetLifeCOPE2018 Attendees Group, or might have been asked in the past and we left the answer off the list. Send your question to the AIS staff and we'll do our best to find that answer.
